Reaching for the Sun
Tracks / Lyrics
Fall in love dream of forever
Live each day as if you’re free
That’s what she said to me
You know I never meant for us to part
You find your way with your heart
You find your way with your heart
All you gotta do is find your heart
When two people live together
Grow in love see it get better
Go for gold in all good time
Look ahead along the line
You know I never meant for us to part
You find your way with your heart
You find your way with your heart
All you gotta do is find your heart
You may feel you’re lost in the dark
All you gotta do is find your heart
All you gotta do is find your heart
All you gotta do is find your heart

With your broken heart
Never knew you felt so
Lost in the dark
You were aching
I was so blind
Help me see again
When your heart is broken
Call me your friend
Call me your friend
Read the note you left lying
There by the phone
In the dark heart so empty
And so alone
You were aching
I was so blind
Help me see again
When your heart is broken
Call me your friend
Call me your friend
When your heart needs to open
Call me your friend
Call me your friend
Found the note that you wrote
With your broken heart
Never knew you felt that
Lost in the dark
You were aching
I was so blind
Help me see again
When your heart needs to open
Call me your friend
Call me your friend

You were helping me and smiling
I showed you a mystery of the heart
Let the answer rest you said smiling
If you wait in wonder you will know
How to find your true heart smiling
CH Do you know that I’m
A ray of light in time
One day you may wish
To follow in my climb
Do believe that I’m
A ray of light in time
Close your eyes
You will find me smiling
I will always feel my love for you
Even though you’re gone and smiling
You gave me my life while bearing pain
Then you set me free while smiling
Will you take my hand in to your own
I have found my true heart smiling

Mysterious playing hard to get
Holding her own
With no regrets
She struck me as a woman who knew
What she was after
She’d not found it yet
You could tell by the way
she was purring
She was the cat’s meow
Every guy that said hello
Got shot down
She was no ordinary dame
First class all the way
A guy sat down beside her
Playing it cool but obvious
Would he be the guy
Or would she pass
As he waited he knew
What he was in for
You have to admire that
Being a man of reason I could see
It was just a matter of time
Before he made his move
And it would sing with rhyme
Like watching a scene unfold
From an old movie
Cue now to the bar
Listen here sweetheart
See I’ve been around
And I’ve seen your game before
You been waiting see
For a chump like me
I’ll get your coat
I know this little cafe

In fields of long ago
At the rise on the hill
While we’d wait in the car below
She looked down not moving
Standing there alone
Starring at the blackened ruins
Of what used to be her home
CH I was just a young boy (i/ii)
Now I’m not a young boy (iii)
Maybe all of twelve (i/ii)
Somewhere long past twelve (iii)
That image etched to memory
And ringing like a bell (i/ii)
Has held me in a spell (iii)
I could feel something stir that day
Never would I know (i/ii)
Never never would I know (iii)
As I watched my mother say a prayer
In fields of long ago
Rumour has it the boys went out
And burned the old farmhouse down
Before it fell on its own
Just memories on the ground
Two years back we laid grandpa there
Thirty three acres lay still
And now grandma would join him
At the rise on the hill
CH
The government took the farm
For so little cash changed hands
An airport now was needed
On what was fallow land
Next time you fly to the Capital
Set down on that runway
Remember the farm that raised sixteen
Was home to my mother’s family

The radios up loud it’s blaring
Racing down the road with the howling wind
The car just purrs and hums
As it hugs the road
And I’ve been told
You’ve got to go on
Two raccoons chase each other ‘cross the road
Deep in the still black night of summer
Cop car up ahead red light flashin’
A man in the back of the car
His head in his hands
He’s being told
You’ve got to go on
There have been times of late
When I could only sing the blues
Now the way I feel tonight
Is so high how can I lose
I can pick and choose
Still miss you
Wandering ‘round aimless missing my mother
Every blinding heartbeat leads to another
She gave life to me so I’d be free
Now that she is gone
I have been told
By a voice inside of me
Listen to me
You’ve got to go on
Listen to me
You’ve got to go on

That’s how you get a PHD
Do I need to get my degree
In why I miss you tonight
Chasing memories all around
Catch a few to find the ground
And some I lose without a sound
That’s why I miss you tonight
Why I miss you tonight
We would walk in to the light
And our love took flight
I hear you wake me inside my head
I reach for you within our bed
Find your sweet memory instead
That’s why I miss you tonight
Why I miss you tonight
We would walk in to the light
And our love our love took flight
I’m doing lonesome to a T
That’s how I got my PHD
Did I need to get that degree
In why I miss you tonight
In why I miss you tonight
I miss you tonight

You know I’ll be there
I’m not that far at all
I’ll be there when you call
In the middle of the night
Your voice sounds so right
Love say a prayer
Love say a prayer
I can hear the ocean roar
Like I did before
I’m so glad you called
For a moment time stalled
Want to hold you again
So this heartache will end
Love say a prayer
Love say a prayer
You know I lost my job
I keep my spirits up
I could look for work out there
I’d love to take you to the summer fair

When Big Top comes to town
Hang with your friends there
When it comes around
Everyone in line
Lay your money down
Clickety-clack the turnstiles hum
I’ll race you to ride on
The ferris wheel
CH Like two kids at the fair
With wind blown hair
Sharing popcorn
My lady love and I
Laughing in the sun
Getting dizzy here we come
On the ferris wheel having fun
We love it when
We rock in the wind
Hang on get so high
Coming round again
Load ‘em on up
Big wheels in full spin
Clickety-clack around we go
Spinnin’ high and low on
The ferris wheel

Wandering ‘round the antique market
She sat at a booth kind of quiet
Made me stop and ask her name
Pretty and fair she smiled sweetly
I was a goner as she spoke
Henrietta she said softly
I said hello we laughed out loud
In the distance
A train cries out (i/ii)
My train cries out (iii)
Fading in time on down the line
Selling knick-knacks little things
Bric-brac on the tables there
Looking for a souvenir
Found a treasure that Saturday

I fell in love on the Nashville fairground
Wandering ‘round the antique market
It was simple if you see
I found her and we fell hard
Found each other and fell in love

I am yours now
Let me into your dream
I was torn in two ways
Now you’re all I see
CH Have I run this far to find
How much you mean to me
I believe my heart has set me
Back upon my feet
Coming home coming home to you
We’re worlds apart
And that will change
I hope you will see
The heart will lead you home
If you never lose the dream
CH
Coming home coming home to you
I was a fool to flee
From a heart that bleeds true
I’m so far away
From your open arms
I’m running home to you

Broken roman ruins
My heart trapped in time
Could feel what they were losing
I could not get a grip
On where I was or why
When I found myself
Beneath a blood red sky
CH I stood reaching for the sun
Standing all alone
Standing there as one
I stood reaching for the sun
In the heart of battle (iii x 3)
Freedom for everyone
Great pillars of stone
Looking down on me
Such a stark reminder
Of what used to be
Tumbled rock fallin’ down
Now so overgrown
Lost here in a wasteland
A million miles from home
