A Little Place I Call Home
Tracks / Lyrics
Somewhere
I see you standing
by my side
When I
reach out
to touch you
I find
your hand in mine

I ain’t on twitter
‘Cause I ain’t a twit
All I ever see there
Is people talkin shit
Don’t you blame me
If I take a break
Everybody’s talkin
And it’s all fake
Gimme the truth
Gimme the truth
Gimme the truth
You say hold on
What’s it all about
You askin me
All I got is doubt
Ain’t got no answer
Find it on your own
Know when you do
You’ll call me at home
Gimme the truth
Gimme the truth
Gimme the truth
Ok my friend
Hear you loud and clear
I will stop to listen
I don’t have to cheer
I know we disagree
May not see the light
Hear me when I say
Don’t give up the fight
Gimme the truth
Gimme the truth
Gimme the truth

I’m driving down I 65
Through Kentucky feeling a buzz
On my way to music mecca
I’m leaving home because
CH Got a head full of dreams
And a suitcase full of ambition
I am going for the sound
I’m headed to Nashtown
I’m driving like a madman
Blinded by the oncoming lights
My windows down and spirits up
I’m racing there tonight
CH ii With a head full of dreams
And a suitcase full of ambition
I am going for the sound
I’m headed to Nashtown
BDGE Blarin’ tunes on the radio
Keep me company in the night
Maybe one day I’ll hear a song of mine
You know that would be alright
CH iii With a head full of dreams
And a suitcase full of ambition
My boots firmly on the ground
I made it to Nashtown

The mat at the front door used to say welcome
Worn away now by so many shoes (i)
Worn away now by the passing of shoes (iii)
If you need an ear I’ll be here for you (i)
When you need an ear I’ll be here for you (iii)
Welcome my friend what’s going on with you
First thing you see it’s not a mansion
Feels just like home when I turn on the light
The roof has a leak if it rains real hard
I know I’ll find it when the time is right
REFRAIN Just a little place I call home
Pull up a chair yeah this is my kitchen
Sit yourself down I’ll pop us some beers
You say it’s so hard since you lost your son
Days are long and nights fill with tears
REFRAIN x 2
BREAK
REFRAIN
When you can’t take it and feel so empty
Missing the heartbeat that held him so dear
My home can be a small sanctuary
You may always take your shoes off here
REFRAIN x 2
REPEAT 1ST VERSE (iii)

I saw a blind man in a self-driving car
He was drinking coffee and smoking a cigar
A grin on his face said man this is tailor-made
As he drove away I don’t know why I waved
Now I’ve got the you’re not dealing with a full-deck blues
I heard a politician on late night TV
Said nature would provide us with all that we need
How we could bend the rules create so many jobs
If the earth burned up we’d all be saved by God
Now I’ve got the you’re not dealing with a full-deck blues
CH On the road to ruins with the full deck blues
Don’t let someone else force you to choose
Going down the tubes with the full deck blues
Time to smarten up now or we’re gonna lose
I went to the airport was on my way home
My passport ready the man said come along
Moved up to the line he said anything to declare
I chose my words wisely I did not take the dare
All I said was I’m going home now I’ve paid my dues
CH
TAG Don’t you give me

She was looking lovely
And there it was that smile
When she softly called me
Called me to her aisle
She was working the check-out
And I was passing through
She was looking lovely
But she wasn’t you
I’d seen that smile before
I’d watch you light a room
You’d walk in and time would stop
And I’d shoot for the moon
You would speak your mind
With love upon your lips
When you got wild you would smile
Say let it rip
CH God you were lovely
What a memory can do
The heart can tear your love apart (i/ii)
Love can tear your heart apart (iii))
Then bring it back to you (i/ii)
And bring it back to you (iii)
And when it does you will know
Just what you must do
If time is a healer (i/ii)
Yeah time is a healer (iii)
It’s time for me and you (i/ii)
My heart still beats for you (iii)
God you were lovely
You had a smile a mile wide
You spoke softly like an angel
And I walked by your side
We would dance together
Somewhere on the moon
God you were lovely
My heart still beats for you

Mr friend Willie showed me a portrait
He wouldn’t say where he kept it hid
He bought it on ebay with a credit card
He persevered with the highest bid
In black and white charcoal on papyrus
Was a likeness of Jesus Himself
It looked so perfect for something so old
Signed on the bottom Jesus of Nazareth
CH Hold on Willie
Can this be real
You better believe
I got me a great deal
I’m so thankful for what I received
The man who sold it was blind he said
I feel so bad for stealing from him
Hope he don’t see he’s not right in the head
CH
I asked Willie how much he paid
He gave up the farm was all he would say
The farm could feed all the masses
The portrait is mine let me find my glasses

I fell asleep dead tired and flew off in a dream
I flew to a highland my ancestors had all seen
‘Cross dale stream and forest to Craithie Kirk Balmoral
Friends and I songwriters prayed with Elizabeth the Queen
Fiona sang acapella a hymn Be Thou My Vision
Her voice rang out clearly in a church I knew I’d been
Lifted me as royal to a place I held dearly
Back to school a young boy singing God Save the Queen
I heard a chorus of angels
I heard the pipes and drums
I heard Paul play violin
The sound of kingdom come
In a church on a hill with Lady Lydia Lord Verlon
We all heard the sermon ‘bout the need for what we do
Write the songs tell the stories of a life we all are living
May we never lose the urging that takes us back to you
May we never lose the urging that takes us back to you

Bob would visit Woody in the hospital
They would laugh and dream Bob and his idol
Now you see Woody said Bob it’s up to you
Bob would take the challenge he knew what he had to do
CH Bob would write an anthem the truth would always win
Find the answers there just blowin in the wind
You had to be ready the times were a-changin
There’s work to do my friend if not now when
Bucky wrote in his book Manual for Spaceship Earth
The sun will always shine a blessing or a curse
Plant a seed in sunlight for hungry mouths to feed
For many go without this basic human need

I got four on the floor
When I ride my horse
A saddle on his back
Ready to go forth
Reins are in my hand
Head out on a jaunt
Smell of hay and leather
Take me where I want
CH Find a wide open range
Gallop for the feeling
Ride all over the plain
In a wide open range
In a wide open range BRDG CH
We ride o’er the hills
The wind blowing through
Get lost in a field
Leave a dust trail for you
Race you in the sun
Off the beaten path
Rest by cool water
Time stands still like that

I stare at your picture
You smile back at me
Say out loud I love you
You hear me clearly
You let me get it out
Like you used to do
Thanks for listening sweetheart
I’m still here for you
Felt helpless as you slid
I fought it all the way
I stood strong and crumbling
As I left day by day
You held me with your love
Hold up high what is true
Give and leave a blessing
I’m still here for you
BR In the face of grace
We did a lot of living
In a race with life
There was no forgiving
I stare at your picture
I stare back at you
Say out loud I love you
And I hear you too
You let me get it out
Like I used to do
Thanks for listening sweetheart
I’m still here for you
TAG Thanks for listening tonight…

So unaware of the pain in her face
Was there for all to see
Like broken dreams that could not fly
And still trying to be free
She learned to lean into the wind
Blowing hard but no contest
She would brave every day
With a prayer she did her best
CH She left her past would it free her (i/ii)
She left her past it would free her (iii)
To find another way (i/ii)
To live another day (iii)
She found a shelter from her storm
In the evening they would say
Welcome you are safe here
Take a deep breath now
It’s never easy she would moan
As she’d stumble for the proof
Why every day is one more fight
To find a little truth

Love will come and find you if you want to be found
As a raging river flows through the heart of town
You can ride the rapids and know that you won’t drown
Love will come and find you if you want to be found
Love is like a candle that flickers when it’s lit
It will light your life and shine all over it
You may not be warned if it’s ever gonna hit
Love is like a candle that flickers when it’s lit
CH Love will lift you up and it may let you down
Hear a little whisper all over town
Like a coin you toss high in to the air
Hope it lands to find you find you standing there (i)
Hope it lands to find you find you yes it will (ii)
